Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) finished runner-up in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC at round eight of this season’s FIA World Rally Championship. The Finnish duo claimed the 58th podium finish of their career at their home rally in Finland, and their 25th in Volkswagen colours. Latvala/Anttila moved into second place behind eventual winners Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle (GB/IRL, Citroën) on stage five, and held on to this position through to the finish. Latvala/Anttila also finished third on the Power Stage to pick up one bonus point. This result sees Latvala climb into third place (87 points) in the Drivers’ Championship and close the gap to fellow Volkswagen drivers Andreas Mikkelsen (N, 98) in second place and championship leader and three-time world champion Sébastien Ogier (F, 143). The result in Finland also means that Volkswagen continues to lead the Manufacturers’ Championship with 227 points, ahead of Hyundai (168) and Ford (112). The next event on the WRC calendar is the Rally Germany (18 – 21 August).
