Janine, do you like photographing rally cars, as a passion and a lifestyle?
Well, since Nico took me to a few rallies, I fell in love with motorsport and with photography too. So, I bought the needed equipment to start with photography. It’s getting more a passion for me and I can’t consider stopping because it’s so much fun and always can remember the good times lived at each rally.
What means for your professional work to cover ERC 2017?
First, takes more time than expected. Nico always says he has to work until late night to send the pictures to the magazines and customers. And yes, after Cyprus I saw how much work takes to check all the pictures, choose the best and editing. But sure, it’s much fun to be a special person at each ERC round and get to know more European Rally Championship’s best drivers.
Any sensations left by Azores and Canary, is the atmosphere of rallying fantastic in both?
Yes, these both rallies are the most amazing of the season. The Azores with the unique gravel roads, the fantastic “Sete Cidades” stage on the volcano crater and the rain forest. The landscape is special around Europe, the weather too. On one side, you have fog and rain and five kilometers later you have blue sky and not a cloud. Canary is quite different. Paved stages and one corner after the other. Tarmac has much grip, and it’s indeed enjoyable to drive. Landscape too, many rocks and high mountains along with many cacti and flowers. And of course, the pretty beaches and dunes in Maspalomas. The fans are also amazing. Both events you can enjoy the crowd’s passion and how they cheer on their local drivers. Sometimes you have goosebumps over your body.
A brief concept of differences you get of rallying between WRC, ERC and the specialty in Germany?
I still wait for my first WRC event, so I already look forward to August to WRC Germany. But, often, you can say the atmosphere is completely different. In Germany, the spectators are standing at the roads watching the cars, is not well the passion feeling compared to other European countries where you can sense how the fans love rallying. Two hours before the stage you can’t find any free space to stand at the stages. I guess in one stage at Canary are more fans than at one whole German Rally. So, the atmosphere is so much better at ERC.
Janine, are you looking forward to WRC’s German Rally in August?
Yes, sure. For me, will be my life’s first WRC rally, and it’s always exciting to watch the world’s best rally drivers in the fastest factory cars. Will interest to feel the special atmosphere of a WRC event, and I also look forward to Panzerplatte’s stage. I already saw many pictures and can’t wait to go there.
Which rally event in the world you would prefer to travel?
Good question, first, I want to finish my apprenticeship next months and after that, the next step will be to move together with Nico to our own flat. And yes, after that one of my main goals is travel worldwide and discover as much as we can. In short, I want to spend a nice time with my boyfriend and have much fun and adventures.
A small consideration of Rally Argentina? Would you like to come and cover the 2018 edition in Villa Carlos Paz?
Of course, it’s always a goal to know new events in the world, and I’ve never been to South-America in the past so sure I want to travel to South-America later. And Rally Argentina with the jumps and amazing water splashes is always nice to view. So, I would say ‘wait and see’ instead of ‘never say never’.
