A new name is about to arrive on the rally stage – announcing its arrival in the most epic style. Rally Replay is launching at Rallyday – and to mark the occasion, they are reuniting former French World Rally Champion Didier Auriol with an ex-Works Lancia Delta Integrale for first time in nearly three decades.
This is part of Chichester-based Rally Replay’s mission to restore classic rally cars and put them back where they belong – on the gravel and tarmac and in front of adoring fans.
It was the celebrated Martini Racing Lancia Delta Integrale that in 1992 Didier Auriol drove to double victory at the 1000 Lakes and Australian rallies – the prospect of reuniting with his former car has enticed Auriol to make this rare guest appearance at Rallyday.
Auriol drove three variants of the dominant Integrale. In 1992’s final evolution of the car, he won six events in one season, a record that held until 2005 but it wouldn’t be until two seasons later where Auriol would lift the World Title with Toyota in 1994.
Rally Replay is also bringing back two-time world champion Massimo ‘Miki’ Biasion. The legendary driver will show that these cars are not just museum pieces but finely-tuned working thoroughbreds still at home in action.
At last year’s Rallyday, Miki won legions of fans with his tales of his career including the famed Group B era of the late 1980s. Rally Replay will also be bringing an ex-Works Lancia Delta S4, a 500+ BHP monster synonymous with this era and a car Biasion took his first victory in.
Rally Replay director Paul Billett said, “We’re thrilled to reunite these legendary drivers with the cars that brought them glory. This epitomises what Rally Replay is all about – recreating the iconic moments of rallying’s rich history. This is not only for the benefit of enthusiasts but also for posterity to preserve for future generations experiences that mustn’t be forgotten.”
For its first public outing at Rallyday on September 21st, Rally Replay is showcasing a selection of original ex-Works Rally cars from its Chichester showroom that its team of experts has lovingly preserved in exquisite detail. These include several Lancia Delta Integrale’s, a Fiat 131 Abarth and a Lancia Delta S4.
Rally Replay co-founder Adam Midghall said, “No-one else is doing what we’re doing – exclusively focussing on sourcing lost and hidden gems of the rallying world and bringing them back to life, reviving, reliving and celebrating their history.“
“We recently discovered a vehicle stored away since 1999, that through our research department, we discovered was the first Evolution gravel specification car built that was used by Lancia as a test car for the 1992 season. In addition to this, it’s the only Delta Carlos Sainz won a rally driving. With this being the only car he took victory in, it makes it very special indeed.“
“We thought this was a sad fate for such a celebrated car and we immediately went to work to restore it back to its former glory. This is one of the many cars we will be bringing to this event for the fans to see and experience up close.”
Rally Replay has brought together an elite team that aims to provide a complete heritage service – from sourcing rally cars of all era’s, full vehicle restorations to providing unique, fully detailed history files to show what made these cars famous. This is opening up the historic rally car market, challenging the tradition of anonymous sales and increasing access to these treasures which until now have gone under the radar.
This unique approach doesn’t end when the car leaves the showroom. The team will provide full after-care with bespoke servicing to meet the owner’s wishes, from simple ongoing preservation through to full arrive and drive packages.
Meet the Rally Replay team, see the cars and chat with our celebrity drivers at Rallyday at Castle Combe Circuit on September 21.
