2016 “FAW-VW” Cup China Rally Championship held in Dazhai, Shanxi came to an end. The event was the first CRC tournament held in Dazhai, Shanxi, where the new environment and stages brought passions and shock to many motor race fans.

FAW-VW racing team won the Confederations Cup, the Manufacturers Cup, the National Four-wheel Drive Cup and achieved this season’s “three consecutive championships” once gain.
FAW-VW Sagitar champion team won the National Second-Drive Manufacturers Cup and all three new Sagitar racing cars finished the game. The outstanding performance of the two teams made FAW-VW the biggest winner of CRC Dazhai event.
On the afternoon of December 18, a riot of sounds were heard on the Red Flag Square of Dazhai, Shanxi, where the 2016 “FAW-VW” Cup CRC event held in Dazhai, Shanxi came to an end after intense competition of eight stages in two days.
FAW-VW racing team advanced irresistibly after two wins respectively in Dengfeng, Henan and Zhangye, Gansu. The team won the Confederations Cup, the Manufacturers Cup, the National Four-wheel Drive Cup, the Special Contribution Award, and achieved this season’s “three consecutive championships” once gain. Atkinson undoubtedly won the championship of all racing drivers, while Li Guojin obtained the third place among Chinese drivers.

FAW-VW Sagitar champion team won the National Second-Drive Manufacturers Cup and all three new Sagitar racing cars finished the game. Li Dawei was the runner up of the S3 group, Liu Xu, the media pilot obtained the third place as a pilot of the S3 group. The racing team of Gui Meng, the female racer, and Wu Yue, the female pilot won the championship of “Women’s Cup”. The outstanding performance of the two teams made FAW-VW the biggest winner of CRC Dazhai event.

New test on rugged mountain road
The competition was the first CRC event held in Dazhai, Shanxi, where the new environment and stages presented to all participating racing teams a new test, and many motor racing fans experienced new passions and shocks.
The stages were on a gravel mountain road surrounding Xiyang County. Composed of the 22km Mount Zhanling stage and the 17 km Mount Laomiao stage, the two stages were used 4 times unidirectionally, totaling about 156 km. The stages had a large difference of level and challenging corners.

Surprisingly, weather became an important factor affecting the event. 4 days before the game, Xiyang County, Jinzhong City, where Dazhai was located ushered in a sudden heavy snow, which covered the stages, froze the road, not only affected the car test, but also increased the game’s uncertainty. Although the next few days were sunny, the changing road conditions of the stages put forward higher requirements for drivers’ skills and racing equipment. The Dazhai race in Shanxi Province became an extremely special and difficult event in the history of CRC.
Irresistible Golf Chariot
In the face of those special stages, FAW-VW’s technical team prepared actively, conducted comprehensive tests and fine tuning. In the first day of the race, despite that the road conditions and the road survey are not consistent, Atkinson, by virtue of extraordinary skills and excellent performance of the racing car, took the lead with a score of 46 minutes 2.7 seconds, led the runner up by 28.7 seconds, and laid a solid foundation for the title.

This race was the sixth event FAW-VW Sagitar
champion team had participated. From Longyou, Wuyi, Jixi of last season, to Dengfeng, Zhangye, and Dazhai of this season, the new Sagitar had successfully conquered the muddy mountain road, arctic ice, high altitude desserts, gravel mountainous areas and other harsh climate and road conditions, and won the S3 group championship of four legs.
